Agree upon a communication tool (slack etc) and how and when communication is expected (at the completion of said task or phase, if trouble arises) Make sure there are people in your group who can translate / mediate between specialties (clinical and business. Tech and non tech)

There is never ONE way of communicating - to be effective you need to: • Understand your dominant communication style, its strengths, and its limitations. • Know other communication styles and their effectiveness. • Be aware of what your audience (diverse team members) and context require, and apply different techniques as necessary As John Powell, a famous film score composer puts it – communication works for those who work at it.

Clarity, inclusivity, and alignment drive communication. I establish shared terminology to bridge disciplines, use structured check-ins to keep momentum, and promote asynchronous collaboration for diverse working styles. Encouraging open dialogue ensures every voice is heard and valued.

Good points! However, in my experience managing diverse interdisciplinary teams across Latin America and Europe, one fundamental aspect is missing: clearly defining the team’s mission, vision, and targets in simple, accessible language. To achieve this, it’s crucial to involve team members in the definition process. As a leader or company representative, you provide the guidelines, but it is the team that will enrich, unify, and empower everyone with a shared spirit from the very beginning.

One thing I have discovered that promotes effective communication in interdisciplinary team meetings, is to ensure each member has an opportunity to be heard. Establishing an agenda with time limit expectations, and offering to have a separate meeting for discussions can help respect the time of others and allow everyone to be heard. It's important to note there will always be one or more team members who overshare, or who are not self-aware of the length of time they are taking. Assigning a time keeper who is proactive and professional can help these circumstances by getting the meeting back on track. Each team member needs to be shown they are valued and heard. If you neglect these opportunities, you will lose good employees.

Managing a diverse interdisciplinary team in healthcare means prioritizing clear, open communication: - Set a shared purpose: Align everyone on patient outcomes and project goals. - Use structured channels: Daily huddles, task boards, and digital tools ensure real-time updates. - Encourage cross-discipline dialogue: Create spaces where teams can share insights without hierarchy. - Clarify roles: Ensure everyone knows their responsibilities to avoid overlap or confusion. - Feedback loops: Establish a system for continuous feedback and issue resolution. Diversity thrives when communication is intentional and consistent.

Effective Listening: Practice active listening: Give full attention to the speaker, maintain eye contact, and provide non-verbal cues to show engagement. Ask clarifying questions: Ensure you understand the speaker's point by asking follow-up questions or paraphrasing their message. Avoid interrupting: Let team members finish their thoughts before responding or adding your input. Be mindful of non-verbal cues: Pay attention to body language and tone of voice to better understand the full message.
