  • What can startups do to promote themselves before they even launch? PR doesn't just promote. It positions, builds credibility, and creates the kind of buzz money can't buy. But here's the catch: you only get one shot at being "new." If you miss the PR window during your launch, the opportunity doesn't come back. That's why timing and strategy are everything. A smarter launch: build buzz before you go public. Think of PR as your soft opening. Let us know what you think in the comments.

  • This month, PayPal and Entrepreneur are spotlighting incredible businesses from our inspiring community. Meet Independent Reign, proof that following your creative instincts pays off. It started when founder Janine wandered into a fabric store abroad, seeking a creative outlet. Zero experience, boundless determination. She bought fabric and crafted her first tote bag, then a zippered pouch. One stitch at a time. When she listed them online, sales felt like happy accidents—but orders kept coming. Fifteen years later, that creative spark became a thriving business: "Small batch, quality products crafted with care. Natural fabrics, local vendors, very little waste, and my own two hands." Janine's secret? Staying authentic. "Chasing trends never feels right—it rarely works long-term. My customers return because they know what to expect: thoughtful, consistent, well-made designs." Plus, she has a business partner, Buddy the Yorkie, who ensures proper break times. "Very important business principles!” PayPal has been part of Janine’s journey since day one—providing her an easy way to pay for materials from vendors of all sizes and giving her customers a Checkout experience they know and trust. As her business grew, she turned to PayPal Working Capital to help fund large wholesale orders and expand into a dedicated studio space, giving her the flexibility to meet tight deadlines and keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. • What happens when one bank surpasses all its competitors? JPMorgan is worth more than Citigroup, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo all put together. CEO Jamie Dimon says he isn’t going to "declare victory" but will keep an eye on the competition. It was able to reach market value highs because it benefited from acquiring First Republic Bank in May 2023. Meanwhile, the corporation's competitors have been facing unique difficulties. • Should startups use their revenue to help other businesses? Andy Hunter, founder and CEO of Bookshop.org, set out to support independent bookstores across the U.S. A conversation in 2018 inspired Hunter to build a platform that could help bookstores "facing an extinction event." The number of U.S. bookstores decreased more than 50% in the span of about two decades, per Census Bureau data. Bookshop launched in January 2020, and in the early days, the "very small, very scrappy" startup didn't have a customer service team and saw modest sales. That changed when the pandemic hit. Now, Bookshop is a certified B Corp that has raised more than $39 million for independent bookstores to date. Let us know what you think in the comments.
