  • Today marked the opening of the inaugural SMI China Forum - a landmark moment as global and Chinese CEOs convened in China for the SMI’s first in-country forum. The Forum opened with inspiring addresses from SMI China Council leaders Jianlong Yu, Vice Chairman, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CPPIT) and Zhuo Chengwen, Company Secretary at Bank of China followed by a powerful plenary, with remarks from Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA, Greg Jackson, Bernard Mensah and Dr Andrew Forrest. The message was clear, China’s commitment to a transition, large scale investment and scalable innovative green technologies demonstrate that transition is not a distant aspiration – it’s already here. The private sector can lead the way and drive change through win-win cooperation across borders, industries and supply chains to accelerate transition globally. Throughout the Forum, leaders participated in roundtables addressing critical themes including: ·     Powering the Future: Electrification and Source-Grid-Load Integration ·     Transition Finance: Developing New Opportunities ·     Sustainable Health Systems ·     International Cooperation on - CCUS – Unlocking Private Sector Led Cooperation on Global Carbon Value Chains ·     Pioneering Sustainable Aerospace and Space ·     Sustainable Supply Chains: Accelerating AI and Automation We’re proud to have hosted the Forum in partnership with the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), sharing value insights and engaging with leaders here in Beijing. #SMIChinaForum #SMITerraCarta #SMIAstraCarta

  • With the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo getting underway in Beijing, SMI CEO Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA had a chance to reflect on China’s commitment to the global transition as part of the Leaders Lounge series on CGTN Europe. During the interview she reflected on the ambitious goals China has set for itself, the interconnectedness of the global economy to China and the need to bring world leaders and CEOs together to take decisive action on climate and Nature. • The countdown to the #SMIChinaForum is on.   For the first time, global and Chinese CEOs will gather in Beijing under the SMI banner for a landmark conversation on sustainable transition.    Hosted by the Sustainable Markets Initiative and the China Chamber of International Commerce, the Forum will spotlight innovation, investment and action in China, while creating space for international cooperation.   The Forum coincides with the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) and comes as recent data from the Global Energy Monitor reports that China continues to lead on clean energy.    In 2024 alone, China installed more solar capacity than the entire world did in 2022, and invested over $800 billion in clean technologies, more than the next ten countries combined.   SMI CEO Jennifer Jordan-Saifi said, “China leads the world in solar, wind and EV capacity and is proving the economic case while demonstrating the speed at which transition results can be achieved.”   #SMIChinaForum #SMITerraCarta #SMIAstraCarta

  • “The scale of the challenge is enormous. Governments, industry, and consumers must work together for the greater good.”   Dubai Airports CEO and SMI member Paul Griffiths, joins the fourth edition of the Terra Carta series of the All Things Sustainable Podcast with S&P Global.    Paul shares how the world’s busiest airport is tackling the immense challenge of decarbonising aviation – from expanding the largest solar panel installation at any airport globally to innovative waste management and energy-saving initiatives.   He also stresses that global collaboration is critical to scaling up sustainable aviation fuel. All the SAF produced worldwide today would power aviation for just 50 hours, underscoring the urgent need for action.   Listen to the full episode here:   #SMITerraCarta #AllThingsSustainable S&P Global Sustainable1

  • Encouraged to see the UK Space Agency launch a new procurement process for the UK’s first mission to remove retired satellites from orbit to tackle the growing threat of space debris.    With an estimated 130 million pieces of space debris smaller than 1cm, and over 40,000 tracked objects larger than 10cm, orbiting Earth today, even tiny fragments can cause catastrophic damage to the satellite networks that power our essential services; from GPS and weather forecasting to emergency communications.   The initiative aligns with the SMI's Astra Carta, a mandate launched in 2023 in support of the vision of our Founder, His Majesty King Charles III, for responsible and sustainable space exploration, development, and cooperation. With the global space economy projected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2035, this announcement serves as an example for how private and public sector organisations can come together to tackle sustainability in space. https://lnkd.in/e-CqZENC   #SMIAstraCarta #SustainabilityinSpace

  • Transformative progress in clean energy demands more than innovation. It requires radical collaboration across sectors and industries. Our recent ‘Seeing is Believing’ fusion energy event brought together the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Tokamak Energy, and leaders from 10 global companies immersing them in the science, engineering, and commercial potential of fusion energy. By bridging the expertise of the public sector with the drive of private enterprise, we’re accelerating the journey from breakthrough research to real-world power plants. This experience showcased how united action can turn the promise of fusion into a sustainable reality, inspiring participants to envision and help build a cleaner, more resilient energy future. Thank you to all who joined us and to the pioneering minds working to make fusion part of tomorrow’s energy mix. #SMITerraCarta #SMIAstraCarta #SeeingIsBelieving #FusionEnergy Reza Zadeh Thomas Hobby Hugo Spowers MBE Anand Verma (Dr.) Warrick Matthews Prof Ian Chapman
