𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 (January 22, 2025) 𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝗽𝗺 (𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲) 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆. While not the world's largest producer of cassava roots, this region leads global exports of cassava products, particularly native starch and chips. Despite this success, challenges in knowledge transfer and collaboration persist. Her team has addressed these through comprehensive capacity-building programs spanning cultivation, processing, waste management, and value-added development, supported by customized curricula and a bioethanol production pilot plant. The talk will also highlight how sustainable cassava practices contribute to climate change mitigation and industry preparedness for the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) through improved efficiency and carbon footprint assessment. Dr. Kanchana will also discuss the ASEAN Cassava Centre, established with support from the Republic of Korea and China, which serves as a regional hub driving sustainable bioeconomy practices across Asia and beyond. Dr. Kanchana Saengchan brings over 15 years of expertise in cassava industry optimization, focusing on starch production efficiency and near zero waste (NZW) concepts. As a founding member of the ASEAN Cassava Centre, she has led capacity building and Train-the-Trainer programs funded by the Republic of Korea and China through the Mekong Institute between 2020 and 2024. Her innovative hydrocyclone design for cassava starch separation earned a silver medal at The 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (2024). #Bioeconomy #valuechain

It is not hyperbole. Why? Big overarching reasons include consumption of surfactants. Asian markets are growing ahead of the global average and well above that of the developed markets like Europe, Japan and North America. Innovation is increasingly coming out of Asia in the entire value chain. And of course investment in production is continuing at a rapid pace there, up and down the value chain. We all know that the humble yet efficient and productive palm tree is one of the two pillars on which the global surfactant business rests (the other is oil & gas). Oil palm is part of an uplifting social and economic success story for Malaysia and Indonesia in particular. In addition, however, there continues to be work to use more parts of the palm tree and what was considered palm waste for surfactant production. Within the two day conference, we gathered over 80 representatives within our IP and #nutrition innovation #ecosystem to participate in our 💡 IP Experts Panel Discussion: Building a High-value Patent Innovation and Commercialization Ecosystem for the Dairy Industry of China 💡. With the increasing awareness on the importance of IP commercialization and the generation of high-value #patents, we formed a panel of IP thought leaders to tap on their #insights on how we can cocreate IP and innovation ecosystems that emphasize on value creation to empower IP and innovation. Our panel of IP experts consisted of IP thought leaders from leading Chinese IP firms, Sunshine IP (三聚阳光) and CN-KnowHow Intellectual Property Group (北京路浩), as well as representatives from the Inner Mongolia IP Office and Shanghai Technology Exchange. Here are some insights from our panel of IP experts: 1️⃣ High value patents is made up of good innovations, long term IP strategy and effective commercialization. 2️⃣ Leveraging of IP policies in China, such as the pre-filing examination route, can aid speedy patent grants and effective IP commercialization. 3️⃣ Enabling high value patented innovations requires long term investments in R&D, innovation and a good grasp of relevant data. 4️⃣ Building high quality IP and innovation ecosystems requires a more intimate and closely-knitted IP value chain which unites inventors, IP managers, policy-makers, IP offices, IP firms and IP partners.
