Are middle managers reconsidering what a fulfilling career looks like? More than one-third of U.S. managers say they would take a pay cut for greater flexibility, a more reasonable workload or an employer whose values more closely align with their own, according to LinkedIn's latest Workforce Confidence survey. In fact, managers are the most likely professionals to consider trading compensation for potential work perks across all job levels. Individual contributors are significantly less likely to accept a pay cut for a lighter workload in particular, while professionals at the director level and above aren't as open to taking a pay cut for any reason. The reasoning? Managers often find themselves simultaneously balancing expectations from executives while handling the day-to-day needs of their teams. That push and pull, research shows, often results in burnout — and could also result in a growing desire for work that feels more sustainable and meaningful. Do these findings line up with what you would expect? How do you weigh compensation when it comes to taking a more fulfilling or flexible role? ✍️: Taylor Borden 📊: Allie Lewis

Traditional goal-setting asks us to define a target and march toward it. But what if that approach doesn’t work for your brain—or your life? We’re drawing inspiration from this week’s Hello Monday episode with Anne-Laure Le Cunff, PhD to explore a more flexible, experimental way to set goals at Office Hours. Anne-Laure’s work offers an alternative that’s especially powerful for neurodivergent thinkers, but useful for anyone who feels boxed in by rigid expectations. We’ll talk about how non-linear goal-setting can open up space for creativity, curiosity, and freedom—and how to build a more compassionate relationship with progress. RSVP now for a reminder, and join us on the LinkedIn News Page, Wednesday at 3 PM ET.
