Outsourcing fulfillment isn’t just for high-growth brands anymore. More startups are handing off logistics earlier—and it’s not just about scale. 📦 Why? Because modern ecommerce demands: ✅ Faster delivery expectations ✅ Labor and space flexibility ✅ Tech-enabled inventory visibility ✅ Better customer experience—without burning out your ops team If you're still self-fulfilling every order to "stay lean," you might be stalling your growth. 🔥 This post breaks down the 4 big reasons brands are outsourcing sooner—and how it’s helping them scale smarter. 🔗 Read these excellent insights from guest writer Aaron Rubin at ShipHero: https://lnkd.in/ezxZTyaq

Throwback to when I had the fill the back of the car with USPS packages and get them rushed to the sort facility, the day before the end of de minimis. This post shows that not everything goes perfectly, even despite planning. Earlier this year and last, we ran our own linehaul operation. We wanted to help our customers save and take better control of the process. It was fun and went great! It was nice saying we owned a van too. 🤸 Then everything changed when the tariff and section 321 amendments happened. Here's the story: A couple of days before the end of the de minimis, we stayed longer at the warehouse to ensure that as many packages to the US were going out. Everything was good. Things were moving along. We explained this to our clients, kept them informed and reassured. But on the day right before section 321 was going to be no more for China made products, we THOUGHT everything was going well until we were at the border and got turned around. Refused entry. We drove and declared those shipments like it was every other day. But today - we were not allowed in. Our driver had to bring everything back. Two hour drive back. We even planned a later start time for the driver that day just to make sure we had everything set. He would get back around 3:30 pm. We had to think quick. It was either we had to tell the customer that we can't do anything about it or we sort out an alternative solution on the spot. We checked in with our shipping partners to see who could still cross and make it. Made several calls and came back with lots of disappointment but we weren't ready to give up. Eventually there was a shipping partner able to help and we could drop off at their facility. We relabeled everything, shoved them into the back of a Toyota and drove an hour across the city in pouring rain to get these dropped off. The rain was definitely a paid actor or something because it started raining HARD. And the happy ending is that everything made it through and got delivered to the customer in the US, without any additional tariffs. --- This just reminded me that: In logistics, you're in charge in making things happen. Our clients depend on us to make the right decisions to get their stuff out. That is what we signed up for and what we strive for each and every day. But things don't happen as they are planned all the time so it's important to quickly pivot and make decisions. I'm grateful to the Ship Apollo team for all being so willing to jump in. They helped relabel the shipments as soon as it came in. All of us understand the importance of making things happen, even when it seems like odds are stacked against you. I'm also grateful to Stallion Express for helping us get these through and being so accommodating. And ShipHero (sorry, I know I just did a post mentioning Ship Hero but thank god for their shipping containers feature, or else locating the packages during the relabeling process would have been hell)!
