About us

BASF is building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, Mainland China. The project is BASF’s largest investment to date with around €10 billion upon completion. It will be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF and will be the company’s third-largest Verbund site worldwide, following Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium. BASF Integrated Site (Guangdong) Co. Ltd. (BIG), BASF’s wholly-owned subsidiary, was officially established in 2019 to oversee the operations of the Zhanjiang Verbund site. The new smart Verbund site utilizes state-of-the-art and digital technologies with high safety standards and provides low carbon footprint solutions. The first plants producing engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) are already in operation and serving our customers across various industries. At the same time, BASF Zhanjiang is in full swing building the core of the Verbund including a steam cracker and several downstream plants. Our team is diverse, comprising colleagues with rich experiences in project management, execution, and operations in the Asian environment. We are supported by BASF global talents and trusted partners. Every one of us is committed and passionate in writing new successful chapters for BASF. BASF Zhanjiang is excited to provide excellent-quality products with high production reliability to our customers. Together with our stakeholders, we are creating chemistry for a sustainable future.

Infrastructure, utilities, and logistics facilities at our Zhanjiang Verbund site are making good progress in preparation for full operational support. It’s exciting to witness our new site beginning to 'breathe'. The energization of numerous electrical substations continues to advance steadily, pipelines are gradually being filled with essential technical gases to facilitate commissioning activities. Water treatment plant has produced on-spec demineralized water, cultivation of active sludge for wastewater treatment plant has started. The sounds of compressors, pumps and burners, coupled with steam blowing operations, echo throughout the area, gradually transforming our Verbund from a construction site into a mega chemical complex. Our logistics facilities are also taking shape. Just last week, we proudly inaugurated our state-of-the-art Dangerous Goods Warehouses, specifically designed for the safe storage of a diverse range of materials. Moreover, our site logistics project team celebrated a significant milestone by achieving four million safe working hours. At BASF Zhanjiang safety is a fundamental aspect of our daily culture. We are excited to build on this momentum as we steadily approach the commissioning phase of our new Verbund site. #BASF #BASFZhanjiang #MegaProjectsAsia #Letsdoit #ZhanjiangVerbund
